Nicaragua
On the island of Ometepe I wrenched my ankle bad enough that I can't walk for more than a mile without it swelling to cankle propotions. The funny part about my ankle being messed up is that I can't walk very well but I can ride bike with relatively little pain.
So here is the story of my ankle: I climbed a volcano on the island a couple days ago and on the way down I rolled my ankle hard enough that I thought I had broken it. I was making plans to come home in my head. After failed attempts at splinting it with a vine and two sticks I hopped for 4 hours through the jungle and down the volcano. It wasn't until the next day when I found out that walking was not an option ... but biking was.
I have been resting my leg here and waiting for a shipment of gear. Unfortunatly, I just found out that I might never see this box because Nica customs holds on to shipments for around a month after recieving it.

Quinn,
So glad to hear your foot is doing better. I was worried it might be fractured. Was trying to find a doctor in your area who could see you. Thought we might have a listing of foreign doctors at work, but didn't succeed. Take care. Keep the weight off of it until it is feeling normal.
We love you.

Hi Quinn,
Sorry about the ankle...i do that to myself all the time...must be a Quinn trait...i used to have a ankle brace i bought at the pharmacy is had an air lining and a hard plastic cover that would fit right inside my shoes... as your old man said duck tape works too....and soak in a nice cool stream...I think the pedaling is helping you to restrengthen your muscles around your ankle...keep it up...
Holy crap what progress you have made even with all the setbacks ....you are doing great....
I was wondering how much you have made for the line of sight project is there any way we could get a "kinda close" estimate so if you need more help we can email all our friends to donate 5 bucks or something?
I still owe for the 9/11 day.....will send that soon...
anywho...take care
love
your cuz

Quinn--
Hola, its Melissa from Ometepe. I'm so sorry about what happened to your ankle. Hopefully you are back to 100% soon. If there's anything we can do to help with your package, just let us know. Rob had something shipped here via FedEx and it did not get held up in customs, and I know sometimes students in the field school get care packages from their parents. So I really hope you can get your stuff.
Best wishes and safe travels.

Hey Quinn and everyone, this is an email we got from a friend here in Plover. It's actually one of many we've received recently.
With people like this jumping on board it's going to help Quinn reach his goal.
It's really great to have friends and family helping the cause.

Sorry to hear about your ankle. You might have some loose stuff floating in there now. Try to keep it in a stable position. Hopefully you can keep pedaling. I did that 20 years ago and was able to get by for a year before getting it cleaned out. Good luck and strength.
