Prince george

Pulling into Prince George
next stop hopefully whistler for some snowboarding!!!!! maybe 5 more days

Yet another surreal campsite....

Peter

Peter is a chemist from germany and he also is biking from Ak to Argentina and he has the same birth date as me only 50 years earlier ... friday the 13th jan
we rode together for 4 days and ventured into stewart together...

We took a full day off of our bike when we got to meziadin Jct. and headed to stewart for the day.. a man named steve took us in had us stay at his house and drove us up to the slamon glacier 20 miles into the mountains then took us all the way 40 miles back to the jct.

Black Bear checkin us out

The black bears are really timid its the grizleys you must keep a eye out for.
Every local had something to say about the grizley bear mostley trying to give a scare.

Damp rides

It rained so hard one of the days on the cassiar, but like the clouds came they left very quickley and the sky opened up to a misty blue sky and big snowcapped mountains

Good Hope Lake

This camp after Good Hope Lake was the most serene yet....Water was still real cold..

The Cassiar was really nice...not as many cars, great roads(lots of little hills and turns)and so much wildlife....mostly bears.......everywhere bears bears bears...I neglected to tell my mother this on the phone...for her own good

Cassiar Hwy. entering BC

At the start of the Cassiar Hwy. I had no idea what I was about to begin...

Swift River bad dog

We pulled into Swift River after a day of rain. The first thing that happed was this dog came to me like he wanted to greet me, but then he turned and marked my saddle bag as his territory.

Hazelnut Creek

Once in a while someone will claim to have endured the worst mosquitos ever, as if witnessing the largest gathering of those little S#$ts is something to brag about .... Well I will put myself on the boasting block and say I have been engulfed in the most horrific blood feast ever. I had every piece of clothing I own on, I had enough deet to give anyone cancer, and a mosquito head net which only acted like a cage to keep the mosquitos in because there was no keeping them out........meanwhile it was a humid 80 degrees and we where wearing all of out cloths to ward off the skeeters. Sylvain mad a comment like which would you rather have mosquitos or rain, I said rain and no more than 10 min later there was a downpoor and we got both.
Although the bugs where bad and the rain made us uncomfortable we got really good fishing next to camp and a cabin with a hole in the roof to eat breakfast in.
Life is really looking up.

Dick and Bonnie

We pedaled only 30 miles on the 12th because of the heat and patially because of the night prior was a late one. We stopped at the yukon river for the remainder of the day to enjoy the heat rather than fight it. Because of the absurd price to do laundry(maybe $3 hehe)I have been washing my cloths in the lakes and streams at camp every night. So here I am washing my cloths on boat landing resembling a bit of a dirtball next to the yukon river bridge and very unexpectedly a man invites sylvain and I into his motor home for diner with him and his wife. Considering we had eaten lunch only 20 min earlier we accepted this invite with much excitment. They tried to minimize their gratuity by saying that its hard to keep left overs long in a motorhome but really they where just truely very good people.

Really this time Whitehorse To Prince George

After a rat race of sort, trying diligently to get our errands done, we left Whitehorse in the brutal 85 degree heat at high noon on the 12th of june.

Whitehorse to Hyder, AK

Well I just spent 3 hours writing about the last 2 week that I had been without internet to update the site.. After around 4 pages of stories I had been working dilegently on, a man asked me if he could just get an adress quick off the net because I had taken so long.. so I pulled up a different window for him and told him not to close the window that I was working on.. well I went to the restroom and when I got back he was already done, I thought great! now I can finish and get back on the road ... well he managed to close my window which deleted all of my work.. so I will write when I get the photos up in kitwanga in two days or so.. sorry for the delay in updates for those who are following the journey.. I am now goin to sulk over a pb sandwich and look at the 5th largest glacier in north america and perhaps pay 3 dollers for a 4 min shower... hhehe..
Before I must say thanks to all those have helped... Dick and Bonnie from Wash .. Sally's cafe for the free food. the germans for the free food and to the nice guy who deleted my work .. hehe

We headed to Whitehorse, YK 100 miles in 6.5 hours wind at our backs and sun at our faces...I would like everyday on my bike to be like it was today.......
Its very nice having sylvain to ride with, he is very fast and so damb nice....
We did some reloading in white horse, sylvain had some dental work done on a chipped tooth.. camped last night on long lake with some guys from montreal, good guys all around... They all had instuments and we had a jam session til the weee hours of the morning.....

Parting ways with the old man

It was good ride across AK with the old man and it was hard to see him leave for Haines.... He has helped me so much so far, it would have been really hard to to the dalton hwy. alone....
Thanks Dad for the great ride!!

Finishing Up AK And Celebrating With Some Smores

Crossing into Canadia "A" it seems to bring friendlier people and less trash on the side of the road. It seems that the state that supplies the US with the most income through gold and black Gold is being short handed in some areas...like there being no trash cans anywhere on the hwy. even at rest areas......AK is a beutiful state, trueley the last frontier. glad I got to see it.

Sylvain..........Because of the language barrier Sylvain and I exchange only few words, because of this Sylvian reminds me of Mr. Bean he`s all actions and little words.

Camp right before the booming metropolis of Tok...ok its a lie, Tok is what one would call "middle of no where"...

Camp after Delta Jct. 100 miles that day

Bradley enjoying the views after a good stretch of tailwind.

Rosie

Rosie ... (not my mother) is 3 years into running around the world....no short cuts.....she ran across russia with a sled and when she arrived in whales, Ak she changed her sled into a cart that weighs 100 Lbs. alone plus her gear.....while we where talking to her she was jogging in place and though she was anxious to get running again..... Rose is 59 years old and is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met nothing but big smiles..
Rosie is a champion!!

Whitehorse, YK

Pulled into Whitehorse, YK last night .. parted ways with my father yesterday in haines jct. He is headed to haines to fly back to WI. Glad to have him along for AK it was 1000 miles of insanity to sum it up.
Sylvain and I are gorging for the day in whitehorse, if you have ever been away from civilization for a couple days or a week with food meant to just get you through(Rice and oatmeal) you probably know the feeling 1st sighting a grocery store...Unexplainable....
It has been a long 2.5 weeks and have already endured alot of obstacles some expected some not. The last 400 miles have been really exhausting not so much physicly but mentally straining for me... its been hard but in no way detered from my initial intentions. Its really like running a marathon everyday... you start the day off with all the motivation in the world by mid-marathon you are in cruise control contimplating every aspect of life then by 4/5-marathon all you think of is finishing, food, and then sleep. There has always been that feeling of anxiety in a day for me that consists of a day just lounging, and I guess after a day of cycling, and working toward an ultimate goal, its all euphoric.
Again thanks to those who keep in contact with me I really really appreciate the E-Mails....

Oh yeah and Marty a few posts back was actually a hermit in the AK bush....not to be mistaken for my old man ..he is doing way better than that...

The old man is doing way better than I could have ever imagined... he is one of the best riding partners I could have....close to 50 and completely destroyed AK from north to south ...

Tok To Little place I nearly creamed myself when I saw the I-net..

Lets see.......A moose ran out of the woods alongside the road and terrorized us a few miles out of delta jct. When a 1200 lb. Moose runs out of the woods I guess you have two options I can see at this point. #1 try to peddle a 100 lbs. of bike faster than a staggering moose that looks like a clown on stilts. #2 Try to communicate with the moose and make peace. Well the old man and I opted for #1 and got away unscathed.. but the french man opted for #2 ... and is stilll in the woods making a french moose family eating swamp grass and sipping coffee.... Sorry that was all I could think of for a story and that all it was...but the moose was very real... The road from tok to here has been so beutiful and hopefully soon I will have photo's up.... Camping has been the best I could ask for, ketchup and noodles have been a delite at the end of a hard day, oatmeal and chocolate for B-fast also can't beat it for the price...
Thanks everyone who has helped us get this far, I will get some photo's up for those who are sick of my ill-planned journal posts...hehe
Again much thanks to all who have helped

Fairbanks To Tok ...

Lets see here Fairbanks and Tok, AK.........
I'm guessing that one could climb a sitka spruce tree and be able to see Tok From Fairbanks.....It has been a flat for the last couple hundred miles. We cruised 40 miles the first day out of Fairbanks till the weather turned grey, so we pulled off to a wayside to seek refuge. While feasting on a handfull of complimentary candies that I had heisted from a bar about 10 back I noticed a man with a bag also seeking shelter under an old host cabin. Sylvian was his name and he also was on a tour in the same direction. After shooting the Sh#% with him for the evening we had no choice but to let him join our crusade down the Alaskan Hwy. The next day we polished off 95 miles together in search of a good fishing outpost and camp but all we found was a muddy river and an old abandoned trail to camp....Now we arrived in Tok....I will try to write more later and post more photo's later when I get an addequate computor..
