Starting in May, 2006, Quinn Baumberger will take on a unsupported, self-funded bike journey from the northern-most point (accessible by bicycle) in the Americas to the southern-most point: Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Terra Del Fuego, Argentina. His goal: to raise $19,500 for the research of macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in people over 55 years old, affecting over 10 million people in the United States alone. The disease is caused when the central portion of the retina deteriorates, leading to loss of the line of sight. Quinn has decided to carry out this 19,500-mile journey for macular degeneration because years ago his grandfather was stricken with the disease. This trip is a perfect opportunity to help the millions of people affected by this disease and to give back to a man that has given so much. Why The Pan-American Hwy? The Pan-American offers so much diversity, from low desert climate to 15,000 ft passes, from reed homes on Lake Titticaca to ocean front weekend homes. By way of bicycle is a perfect oportunity to see the America's without looking through the window of a rental car or tour bus. What is Line of Sight? Line of Sight is a non-profit website set up to raise money for the research of macular degeneration. |
